Setiap orang  memerlukan musik  (tidak ada satu masyarakat /budaya yang tidak memiliki musik). Oleh sebab itu apakah sebenarnya musik?

Menurut Abler (1989), musik memiliki semua karakter penting dari system kimia, genetika dan bahasa manusia.

Beberapa pertanyaan yang sering timbul dalam percobaan untuk meneliti keunikan dan pengaruh musik atas prilaku manusia adalah:

1.   Apa aspek bahasa  dari musik?
2.  Apa kombinasi yang tepat dari aural, visual dan pengalaman kinestik? Dan,
3. Dari mana asal arti musik?
