The Unpaved
Road For 4 Generations In The World
I have lived
for thirty-seven years on Jalan Abdul Rabkan KM 3, Bukit Timah, Dumai. And
during that time there was something that really bothered me and all the people
living in Bukit Timah. The main road here has not been paved at all for
decades, it has been four generations. Since PT Caltex opened this road in the
1960s, this has resulted in the opening of the life path of the Bukit Timah
community.
Yes, if you
visit Bukit Timah, you will see how "backward" the 6 km long road is.
In stark contrast to the rapid development of infrastructure in almost all
corners of Indonesia.
Why is asphalt
road construction so important?
When the rainy
season comes, the roads made of clay will become like wet mud. Then flood.
That's what happens every year. In fact, this road is the children's path from
home to school and vice versa. The connecting line from Bukit Timah to the city
center, from Dumai to Medan, from Dumai to Duri.
We take
various ways so that interested parties pay attention and take concrete actions
on this road. But, only rejection or silent action that we get.
Then who else
should we ask for our right to public services from the government? Because we
have fulfilled our responsibilities, namely being obedient citizens and being
punctual in paying taxes.
The central
government is our only hope at this time. The hope of our children, who want to
go to school safely and comfortably. Expectations of workers who want to go to
work in peace. The hope of all residents of Bukit Timah whose rights have been
persecuted for decades.
